EXAMPLES OF WORK WE DO:

On this page:

·         Sports

·         Down-streaming and on-site hostings

·        Entertainment, Theatricals, Arena Concerts and Outdoor Events.

·        Other stuff.

We're a dedicated "Odd Job" service provider, specialising in one-off jobs, usually requiring additional planning to overcome the problems of their uniqueness and lack of repetitive familiarity.

As a specialist "trade" supplier, much of our work is done as a specialist subcontractor, to existing event producers and video producers. We don't try to compete with our clients by trying to do the production ourselves.

To give you an idea of what we do, here is a list of some of our work over the last few years.

SPORTS

There is a considerable demand for complete smaller-scale sports coverage, of 3 to 6 cameras. It’s a different market to the 12+ camera “match of the day” coverages, but it absolutely needs to be done neatly and reliably.

SMALL SCALE MOTORSPORTS 4-camera coverage of off-road bike racing for pay TV. Small-scale OB coverage combined with ENG shooting of interviews and colour material.

CYCLING: Indoor vellodrome cycling coverage in Sydney and Melbourne.

SOCCER: Providing OB Van, cameras, commentary and audio facilities, with TD, for state and premier league soccer match coverage, on a subcontract basis.

DOWN STREAMING AND VERSIONINGDownstream versioning of coverages of football, horse-racing and boxing, on a subcontract basis. Add in extra cameras, graphics, playbacks, hostings, frontings and commentary. Uplinked to satellite for international delivery.

TV WRESTLING OB Uplinked to satellite for international delivery.

BIKE RACING Facilities for motorsports coverage at Ipswich, with 6 cameras; 4km of cabling; 6 hours of coverage, live to tape.

DOWNSTREAMING & ON-SITE HOSTINGS

Our mid-size truck is remarkably useful for allowing live broadcsters to host their productions live on-site. This can consist of downstream “versioning” a host broadcaster’s main coverage with extra cameras, commentary and interviews, or creating an entire panel show on location, which also serves to anchor the day’s broadcast offerings.

LIVE TO AIR PANEL SHOW FOR SKY RACING

We provided our OB Van for a four camera panel show on-location, requiring order wires, incoming and outgoing links, fibre tails, wireless comms, in-ear IFBs, and interfacing to event production Clearcoms.

ELECTION NIGHT BROADCAST FOR SKY NEWS

Nine straight hours of live hostings and interviews from the National Tally Room for the "Dark Victory" elections of 2001 and 2004. Major co-ordination requirements between hosts at OB and producers at the Station. Heavy usage of IFB, bearers, order wires, two-way hosting, etc.

SKY RACE-DAY HOSTINGS from Randwick.

3 days of remote hostings, integrated with racing OBs around the country, and segments from the studio. Once again, major co-ordination requirements between hosts at OB and producers at the Station. Heavy usage of IFB, bearers, order wires, two-way hosting, etc

ENTERTAINMENT, THEATRICALS, ARENA CONCERTS AND OUTDOOR EVENTS

We often supply facilities to make live coverage of major outdoor events, either to feed large indoor or outdoor screens, or for recording for later post-production.

We don’t supply LED walls or Video Projectors, but there are plenty of suppliers for these, with whom our clients can shop around directly, for the best value deal (quality vs price).

OB RECORDINGS FOR DVD PRODUCTION

There is an increasing trend for performing artists to record and release their own DVD albums of their work, and we expect an increase in O.B production to supply this new market.

A well-switched live coverage requires relatively little post-production, and is rapidly available for DVD authoring.

JOHN WILLIAMSON ALBUM

4 cameras, live to tape (switched and iso records) of John Williamson concert for DVD and TV special production.

Music legends, John (r) and Pixie (l), magically transform the stage into a piece of outback Australia.

Bill (right) is shooting the stage from a pedestal camera, and Nick (left) is in the crowd, pulling hand-held audience reaction shots.

"FRANK" CONCERT

Tom Burlinson's stunning Frank Sinatra tribute concert was also recorded in this way.

Tom takes us back to the 50's and the RatPack with his amazing recreation of the work of Old Blue Eyes and the Big Band era.

JAZZ IN THE VINES

An annual outdoor OB to record and feed an outdoor screen, with coverage of a Jazz festival in the Hunter Valley.

YOUTH ALIVE

Every year the young crew from Youth Alive use our OB van to cover the concert component of their annual youth rally, last year at the International Tennis Centre.

The stage and the screens.

One of our old 30x box lenses.

The OB van ended up parked in the tunnel underneath the arena and just behind the stage, making for an easy cable run.

RUGBY WORLD CUP: at Overflow Park feeding of outdoor screens, over 6 days.

Three-camera live coverage of stage events and bands, combined with infomercials, sponsor information and telecasts of the rugby games, to audiences of 22,000 per day.

The OB Van provided a comfortable working environment for the crew and equipment. With cabling pre-installed for the rugby season, our rigging and de-rigging times each day were greatly reduced; just drive in the van and plug in the cameras!

We wired up the screens around the park, using overhead cabling, rigged with strainer wires to AS3000 safety standards, as we were crossing public areas, and needed the wiring to survive under all conditions for nearly two months.

Grand final night was wet and stormy, and added to the fans' sullen air of defeat.

Our gear kept operating, even through torrential rain, gale-force winds and thunderstorms, which knocked out the stage audio and lighting on at least two occasions. Control room conditions in the van remain consistent, from storms through to heatwave conditions experienced during the Cup season.

OTHER STUFF

JOHN EDWARDS AUSTRALIAN TOUR 2003

We supplied (as a sub-contract) a portable racks system to do a 7-camera coverage of John Edwards' Australian Tour, in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

After two prep days, six show days and four travel days of unloading the tour's pantech, loading in to the venue, rigging, testing and certifying the rigged racks, rehearsing and doing the show, de-rigging, re-packing, loading out and packing into the tour pantech, we heartily wished we'd used the OB van instead, even with the drives between Brisbane and Melbourne.

SO MUCH EASIER, with an OB van, just to drive up, cable up, plug in and do the show!!!

And, in case you were wondering, we couldn't see any evidence of any sort of technical fakery being used by Mr Edwards in his performances.

CONFERENCE BROADCAST FROM PARLIAMENT HOUSE

We provided our OB Van for a 6 camera live to air Indigenous panel show from the Great Hall, for ABCTV and CAAMA

We parked the OB van in the big garage beneath Parliament House, and connected up using the convenient patchbay provided for visiting OB Vans. Six camera cables. Program video to the broadcaster's bearers. Audio from the venue, replay audio to the venue, and program audio to the outgoing bearers. Easy!
